Our Story

Sidebar opened in 2015 with the mission of bringing the Texan way of smoking meat to Sumter, SC. All of our meats are smoked inhouse on our 1,000 gallon smoker, Big Daddy, or our newest addition, the 500 gallon smoker we like to call lil smokey. Come in today to taste the difference for yourself and pair your meal with any of our 30 bourbons available or our craft beer on tap.

Meet the Chef

George Cain moved to Sumter, SC in October 2018 with his family to become the Culinary Director and Manager of Sidebar. Before calling Sumter home, he spent four years with the McGuire Moorman Hospitality group based out of Austin, Texas. He was also previously with the Pappas Restaurants, Inc. Here he achieved success with locations in Dallas, Austin, McAllen, and San Antonio. When not at Sidebar, George can be found swimming with his three kids or cooking dinner with his wife Brittney.
